Reasons for building a pyramid:

So the only way to build a much higher tomb was to adopt a pyramid-shaped design. The earliest pyramids were uneven step pyramids built during the first 3 dynasties of Egypt. And the construction from the time of the fourth dynasty is a real pyramid-shaped tomb.
