Why get tears when you cut onion?
First of all I want to make a mysterious idea clear to everyone. That is, water does not come out with our eyes, although it looks like water which is called tears.

When an onion is sliced or diced, the onion's cells release the amino acid sulfoxide and the enzyme lachrymatory factor synthase into the air. Then the produces sulfuric acid in our eyes. This form of sulfuric acid irritates the nerves around the eyes making then shed tears.
